Woops! Pedal-patrolling YouTuber catches world-famous film director texting at the wheel.

Well, this is awkward.

Guy Ritchie, director of the award-winning 2009 thriller Sherlock Holmes, seems to have been, err, Sherlock Holmes-ed. The result? A six-month driving ban and a bit of a red face too, no doubt.

In an improbable turn of events, the filmmaker was spotted texting at the wheel by YouTubing cyclist Mike van Erp.

Unfortunately for Ritchie, van Erp captured the entire exchange on GoPro, before submitting his evidence to the police. And to his thousands of YouTube followers too.

Over the last few years, van Erp has been filling his “CyclingMikey” channel with hundreds of GoPro videos showing motorists breaking the law. And he's certainly had an effect, landing 358 drivers with 574 points and £35k in fines!

Motivated by the death of his father at the hands of a drunk driver, he took up his vigilante side project to help make the streets of London safer for pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers.

And the latest fool to be caught on camera just happened to be a world-famous film director.

While van Erp claims to have received numerous death threats as a result of his unlikely hobby, his work is arguably for a good cause. Court papers showed that Ritchie had already committed three speeding offences in the last three years alone, so you might say he had it coming.

But what do you think about van Erp’s approach?

Is what others are doing on the road really any of his business? Should he back off drivers and leave the police to do their job? Or do we need more bike-vigilantes out on our streets?!
