Swedish start-up reveals electric lorry for UK production – and it’s a little bit sexy!
Step aside, Tesla, there’s a new kid on the block.
Last week, Swedish start-up Volta Trucks revealed a 35,000-pound, fully electric truck, and it’s one of the coolest-looking heavy goods vehicles you could possibly imagine.
Volta aims to get 500 Volta Zeros on the road by 2022 with home delivery trials starting next year.
Not only will the trucks be fully electric, offering a range of 93 to 124 miles per single charge, but they’ll also feature advanced driver assistance systems.
As you might expect, an electric vehicle this size isn’t going to be the quickest on the roads. In fact, the top speed is expected to be just 56mph.
But when the lorry’s this gorgeous, who cares!?
And since the idea is that it’s for inner-city parcel distribution, that’s unlikely to throw up a problem anyway.
Now, there’s something particularly unique about the Volta Zero that’s got everybody talking. Look closely and you’ll notice that the driver gets to enjoy a central driving position that’s much closer to the ground than in a traditional cab.
Volta says the lower position will optimise eye height, maximise direct visibility and protect vulnerable pedestrians and cyclists.
The pilot fleet is set to launch to selected customers in 2021, with several logistics fleet operators already signed up to the trial – including DPD.
