Was that REALLY the number one selling car in January?!
The stats are in, we’ve had the low-down on the UK’s best-selling cars in the first month of 2023 and we’re going to come right out and say it:
The front-runner was a surprise.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders released the first monthly new car registrations figures for 2023 this week and it makes interesting reading.
A few of last year’s top-selling models have managed to cling onto their place in the top 10, but one manufacturer’s low prices seem to be making more and more of an impression on buyers.
Can you guess who it was?
While the automotive industry continues to face its challenges, January proved to be its sixth consecutive month of growth, with just under 132,000 new cars registered in total.
That’s a year-on-year rise of 14.7 per cent for January – and it was underpinned by increasing demand from fleets in particular, following months of disruption to the supply chain.
Fleet registrations were up 36.8% to 69,540 vehicles, accounting for more than half the market as a whole.
Anyway, it was good to see the old faithful Ford Fiesta holding onto its position in the top 10 while the countdown to its retirement gathers pace.
Interestingly though, it’s one of just two cars in that list that aren’t SUVs – but is that really a surprise?
