Speed is an impressive feat, whether you’re looking at Usain Bolt’s 100m World Record, Concord breaking the sound barrier or the 763mph land speed record that’s stood for 26 years.
And EVs are now joining the party.
Because a team of Swiss students have pulled off an engineering feat that is incredibly cool, to say the least.
What did they achieve?
Well, they set an EV acceleration record as they got from 0-62mph in less than one second.
At 0.956 seconds, it really is a blink and you’ll miss it moment.
Motorsport fans might shrug at the feat given the power packed into F1, rally and Formula-E cars…
But this is a world record for the acceleration of an electric car.
And despite the UK putting off the new petrol and diesel vehicle ban until 2035, the commercial EV market is picking up at a rapid pace.
Which means new technological and engineering achievements in EVs are seriously exciting now.
If you’re wondering how they managed it, they developed a type of vacuum cleaner that could pull the chassis down through suction…
It’s nothing if not innovative!
Of course, this isn’t a vehicle you’re likely to be buying 20 of for your fleet (or even for popping to the shops in), but it’s the sort of advancement that we’ll be seeing a lot more of in the coming years.
