Floating Vehicles On The Moon – No, Really…

Floating Vehicles On The Moon – No, Really…

Ever since the Moon Landing in 1969, people have dreamed of setting foot on Earth’s only natural satellite.

Robots and vehicles have made it up there since but as NASA gears up for another mission to the moon as part of its ‘Moon To Mars’ programme, things are stepping up a gear.

Because aside from landing gear and getting people onto the moon’s surface, the plan is to establish a small human settlement on the moon as NASA looks to achieve its aim of landing on Mars.

And as part of that, there are plans to introduce floating robot vehicles on the moon.

It’s the sort of thing that sounds straight out of a Ridley Scott sci-fi movie… and yet, here we are.

The idea is that the floating track system is a durable transport system that allows robots to move heavy objects around for construction purposes.

And the real advantage is that the entire track can be rolled out, much like a rug, so there’s no complex construction once astronauts arrive on the moon!

As is the case with so much of the future of vehicle technology, NASA says that the entire moon railway system will be automated.

So, for anyone hoping for any moon-based fleet driving jobs going, it might be a little while before that’s a reality…
