A Vehicle That’s Comfy On The Outside?
Anyone who spends any significant amount of time driving will know just how much difference being comfortable can make.
If you’re fortunate enough to have heated seats or a heated steering wheel in the winter… you’re living in serious comfort.
Now, comfort is usually reserved for the interior of vehicles, with good reason.
But what if I told you that a velvet exterior is a customisation option that’s getting even more popular?
BMW unveiled a special edition XM in collaboration with Naomi Campbell that’s wrapped in ‘ultramarine’ velvet last month…
Yep, you read that right – it’s the world of fashion colliding with the motor industry in pretty eye-catching fashion.
I’ll be honest, I’m not sure how practical the velvet exterior would be outside of enjoying a red carpet and the odd outing in Monaco.
Sure, it’s fine to show it off and drive it for a few minutes in the glorious Cannes sunshine, but how would it fare in rush hour on the M25?
That’s without even mentioning the sequins on the wing mirrors, either.
It did make me wonder how outlandish you could go with the custom design on a car, given how impractical velvet is when it gets wet…
Perhaps a leather exterior? Or maybe tempered glass?
