Half Hot Dog, Half Car, Fully In Trouble…
Novelty vehicles are always good fun, whether it’s a UFO-themed car, a Mystery Machine van from Scooby Doo or the Ghostbusters car.
But there’s one in particular which has become a bit of a pop culture icon – the Oscar Mayer hot dog-shaped Wienermobile.
Oscar Mayer is famous for its hot dogs as well as an array of meat and lunch products and dates back to 1883.
It’s essentially a US institution and it’s ‘Wienermobile’ (hot dog car) fleet is almost as famous as the brand itself.
So, when one of the Wienermobile’s found itself in a spot of bother on the motorway, it was pretty big news.
The good news is that the driver was uninjured, and no other vehicles were involved in the collision which saw the Wienermobile turn on its side.
It turns out that the driver lost control before overcorrecting, with the weight of the vehicle causing it to capsize.
Police closed the right lane of the I-294 motorway (or interstate if we’re going full American!) and everything was cleared after an hour.
It did make me wonder what the UK equivalent novelty vehicle would be…
A Heinz Baked Beans mobile? The Bisto Gravy Boat? A McVitie’s Digestive Double Decker?
