Traffic Congestion On The Rise Across The UK…

Traffic congestion is rising in cities all over the UK, according to the latest data.

Data gathered by TomTom, the satellite navigation software company, whose mapping systems are used in iPhones and other mobile devices, throughout 2024.

And it found that average congestion levels rose by 9% last year, with 34 out of 35 cities measured seeing congestion levels increase compared to the previous year’s figures.

Rising traffic congestion can have a knock-on effect on road safety too, not just on journey times and route planning.

While cities all over the country saw higher traffic congestion, it was London that once again took the crown as the 'slowest’ city in the UK.

And not just that, it’s officially the slowest city in Europe to drive in, ranking 5th in the entire world for travel time per mile via road.

As traffic levels rise, the natural concern is over what the impact on road safety is moving forwards…

Traffic levels have been increasing year after year (except for 2020 and 2021) and one of the biggest concerns is that as traffic density increases, the rate of incidents is also increasing.

With studies finding that drivers are witnessing more poor driving behaviour than ever, vigilance and extra care from drivers is crucial to stay safe on the roads.
