Animals running loose on the roads is one of those bizarre things that very rarely happens…

But when it does, you’re sure to remember it.

And the more unusual the animal, the better – a dog or a cat is one thing, but an ostrich is another thing entirely!

Yep, an ostrich brought traffic to a standstill in South Dakota, USA, the other week, with motorists doing their best to wrangle the bird.

That’s no mean feat though, given that ostriches can sprint at more than 40mph…

At 7 feet tall and reaching speeds faster than any human can reach, an ostrich might be one of the hardest animals to catch on the loose.

Police were quickly on the scene where they arrived to people attempting to coax the bird off the road and away from traffic.

After a few gentle nudges and the lure of food, the owner managed to get the bird back into the trailer with several other ostriches, thanks to the help of authorities and fellow motorists.

The good news is that nobody was harmed, including the ostrich, and anyone running late might have had a hard time getting people to believe their story…
