You Can Always Rely On Emergency Breaking… Can’t You?

Driving today is a much different experience than it was 20, 30, or even 40 years ago.

With more and more mod cons in cars, adaptive cruise control, and an increasing number of vehicles with automatic transmissions, things have changed.

On one hand, it makes driving a much easier experience, allowing you to focus on what’s important while you’re as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

But on the other, technology is never infallible, and it brings its own set of challenges with it.

Adaptive cruise control is an invention that everyone who travels on long journeys will be grateful for – but is it as safe as we think?

Well, the cruise control itself might be, but an experiment around automatic emergency braking technology has found there might be a wider issue…

The study found that at low speeds (up to 25mph), automatic emergency braking is incredibly effective (something you might remember from any driving tests you’ve taken!).

But as speeds increase above 37mph, automatic emergency braking becomes almost ineffective…

And that means that an incident is almost certain.

Automatic emergency braking is a great invention and one that will contribute to avoiding incidents at low speeds, but relying on solely could result in some serious safety issues.

It’s a handy reminder of just how important a driver’s skill, attention, and knowledge are on the road.
