Are Car Parks Getting Smaller?
Parking has changed a lot over the years.
These days, you find yourself checking your phone to see if you’ve got the app you need to pay for the multi-storey you’ve popped into… only to find you need to download yet another app.
That’s the seventh one you’ve got.
Either that or you’ve popped in somewhere and you need to type in your registration to avoid being snapped by the ANPR cameras.
If you manage to successfully navigate those problems, you might also notice there’s one other glaring issue when parking up these days…
What appears to be the decreasing size of parking bays.
If you’ve thought that, you’re not alone.
A new study has found that over the years, cars have gradually grown by around 1cm every couple of years… all of which means that today, most cars barely fit into parking bays that were first drawn more than 30 years ago.
Drive around any multi-story car park and you’ll no doubt see the walls decorated with paint scrapings and bumps at every turn.
It means that many drivers have admitted having to climb out of windows or even the boot on occasion to squeeze into that last parking space.
Hundreds of millions worth of damage is caused in car parks every year and drivers are being warned to take extra care when parking up.
But have you noticed parking spaces have become more of a squeeze in recent years? Let us know in the comments below
