Hot Wheels Aren’t Real… Right?
I’m not sure anything’s ever matched up to the excitement and fun I had with my toy cars as a kid.
Hot Wheels have been the dominant force in that particular market for as long as I can remember, which why it’s pretty cool that there was a design competition run by Polestar where the winning car will be turned into a real Hot Wheels car.
Yep, a 1:64 scale model competition by the car manufacturer, which has become an annual tradition, will see the winner’s design immortalised.
Previous entrants have gone on to work on the Polestar design team, which makes it a pretty exciting concept for anyone entering – and that is both professional and student designers.
And this year’s winner has been revealed…
The judges were from Polestar’s design team and Mattel, who are the toymakers behind the Hot Wheels brand, and they cast their eyes over the 4th annual Polestar Design Contest.
The idea of creating a concept car that might influence future design trends is pretty incredible – although I think my creativity might get the better of me there.
How could anyone resist going for a Batmobile-style design, anyway?!
The winning design was a cross between a supercar and a pick-up truck, with its elevated wheel arches and sleek design, it looks every inch like a Hot Wheels concept car…
Whether that sort of design will ever come to market in a fully-fledged car, I’m not so sure…
