Is It A Bird? Is It A Plane? No, It’s A Flying Fleet…
The future of fleet vehicles is something we’re all fascinated with.
Whether it’s EVs, autonomous vehicles or the sort of technical advances that allow you to have more oversight and control over your fleet, the future holds a lot of opportunities.
But could flying fleet vehicles and drones really be a major part of the fleet network?
Well, the government is hoping that will be the case as it announces £20m in additional funding for innovation in the flying fleet sector.
It’s mainly aimed at taxis and emergency services currently, with plans to expand testing and innovation in the private sector to follow further down the line.
The hope is that innovative delivery and fleet services could help streamline services for the NHS, as well as helping the police tackle crime.
But in the future, plans are for drones and flying vehicles to be introduced for deliveries and fleet services, opening up a new avenue for fleets.
Regulations are set to be streamlined by the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in a bid to make it easy for testing to take place to speed up the introduction of new technology to the fleet sector.
The Regulatory Innovation Office (RIO) has been created by the government to encourage commercial fleets and businesses to get involved in the coming years, while also overseeing safety standards.
Do you think drones and flying vehicles could be a part of your fleet in the coming years? Let us know…
