More Vehicles Than People?!
Famously, there are more sheep than people in Wales – which highlights just how much countryside and farmland there is in the country…
But a country where there are more CARS than people?!
Well, there’s only one and it’s the tiny landlocked country of San Marino.
If you’re wondering whether that’s a good or bad thing when it comes to traffic, it’s hard to tell.
Because there are less than 34,000 living in San Marino, which is technically a ‘microstate’ in the Northwest of Italy.

There are 1.6 cars per person in San Marino, with only Finland coming anywhere near close (there’s 1 car for every person in Finland).
Given the increasing reliance on vehicles in the UK (outside of London at least!), it might surprise you to know that there are only around 0.5 cars per person.
The US, unsurprisingly, is quite a bit higher at 0.87…
It’s an interesting comparison given that the emissions targets and public transport aims of many cities across the UK mean the aim is most likely to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
The reality is that for many, vehicles are a necessity – I don’t need to tell fleet operators that, though!
Particularly with the increasing uptake of EVs, it seems unlikely that we’re heading for a vehicle-free life.
Although I doubt we’re going to own more than one vehicle per person on average any time soon.
