Could Roadside Bans For Drink-Driving Be Introduced?
As police issue warnings to drivers about the dangers of drink driving, a report has surfaced stating that one-third of drivers would support the introduction of roadside drink-driving bans.
The festive period is a time where drink driving incidents increase, with many drivers not realising they may still be over the legal limit the morning after drinking.
It comes after figures showed an increase in the number of people caught driving under the influence (DUI) in Scotland after the legal blood alcohol limit whilst driving was reduced.
It has prompted debate over how best to reduce drink driving incidents, with 38% believing harsher sentences could be effective, while one-third think that reducing the legal limit to zero would be the best deterrent.

To be able to enforce driving bans for those caught driving under the influence, police would need to be given new powers.
Under current rules, only courts can impose a driving ban, meaning that a driver who was caught and prosecuted could continue to drive until their court appearance.
The Police are actively seeking new ways to reduce drink driving numbers with the issue being one of the most serious concerns for drivers and authorities alike.
But the reality is that any solution will require debate before new rules and laws are passed, so it might be a while before any changes are implemented.
