Roadworks Lifted For Bank Holiday Weekend

National Highways are set to lift thousands of miles of roadworks on motorways and major roads for the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend.
It follows warnings of the highest traffic levels over the weekend in years and after National Highways did the same thing for the busy Christmas and New Year period.
The Department for Transport (DfT) hopes that the lifting of roadwork restrictions across 1,127 miles will help with road safety and traffic levels over the long weekend.
It means that 97.5% of major roads in England will operate without any roadworks in place for the weekend.
As we all know, road safety becomes even more of an issue with higher traffic levels, so the news is being welcomed by fleets and road safety campaigners.
Roadworks are being lifted on major routes including more than 100 miles of the M1, more than 130 miles on the M25 and routes on the A27, M27, M4 and M2.
With more than 2.7 million journeys per day, plus an additional 6.2 million journeys at some point over the Easter weekend, traffic levels are set to be the highest since 2022.
In all, the level of traffic is returning to pre-pandemic levels and its prompted the DfT and National Highways to take definitive action.
