Uber promises all-electric fleet by 2040 – but is it really such a big deal?
Uber’s been in the press again this week.
Not for dodgy tax schemes or short-changing drivers…
Thankfully not because of harassment claims either.

Yep, in twenty years’ time, any Uber you hail through the app is now guaranteed to be fully electric.
Sounds great until you skip down to the next news story on the BBC’s most read and learn that the sales ban on new internal combustion engine cars is about to be brought forward to 2030.
So let’s get this straight, Uber.
Clearly you’re taking climate change seriously. So seriously that you’re willing to do what every other fleet operator and manufacturer will probably be forced to do by 2040 too.
Is it just me or is this a bit like promising your kid that Christmas Day will happen on December 25th?!
But who can blame them for doing a bit of virtue signalling at a time when the world’s a teeny bit warier of getting into an enclosed space with a stranger?!
What do you reckon? Am I being a bit harsh here, or are Uber just using a meaningless target to grab a bit of free publicity? Drop a comment below and fill me in!
