A Wet Towel And An Electric Car Probably Don’t Mix…
In news that will surprise nobody, wet towels and electric cars aren’t a great mix.
Why is it even a question, you might ask?
Well, it’s because a viral ‘hack’ for charging Tesla’s quicker has been quashed by Tesla themselves after concerns over safety.
As you might expect, hacks, tips and tricks for getting the most out of your EV are pretty popular online and on social media.
And one of the biggest ones is how to charge your vehicle quicker.
The ‘trick’ with a wet towel that Tesla have warned against is to wrap a damp, cool cloth or towel around a Supercharger cable handle to speed up charging time…
The logic behind it is that a Tesla Supercharger has a temperature monitor that stops the charger and the vehicle from overheating during the charging process.
By keeping the cable cool, some drivers believe that it’ll help charge the vehicle quicker by preventing any chance of overheating…
But that’s not quite right.
The issue is that if the temperature monitor sensor thinks that the temperature is lower than it actually is, there is a genuine risk of overheating and damage while charging.
As with anything relating to vehicle safety, there’s always a good reason for something being in place… and it’s best not to mess with that.
